Headlights And Side Lenses

Train headlights and side lenses are specialized glass components engineered for the exterior lighting and signaling systems of locomotives, multiple units, metros, and light rail vehicles. Manufactured from toughened, borosilicate, or laminated glass, these lenses must withstand high-speed particle impact, extreme temperature swings, UV exposure, vibration, and vandalism while maintaining precise optical performance. Headlight lenses deliver homogeneous illumination and rapid intensity decrease for safe track visibility, while side lenses and signal covers ensure clear, reliable light output for signaling and marker functions. Compliant with EN 15152, GB 48005, and railway glazing standards, they are available in flat, curved, and aspherical configurations with anti-reflective, UV-filtering, and colored coatings. Ideal for OEM and aftermarket applications, these lenses combine durability, optical clarity, and weather resistance to meet the demanding requirements of modern rail operations.

Locomotive front windscreen glass

Locomotive front windscreen glass is a high-performance safety glazing engineered for the extreme demands of rail transport. Positioned at the front of the driver's cab, it must withstand high-speed projectile impacts, gravel strikes, temperature extremes, and constant vibration while maintaining exceptional optical clarity. Manufactured from laminated glass with interlayers such as PVB, SGP, or polycarbonate composites, it complies with EN 15152, GM/RT 2456, and FRA requirements. Integrated heating systems using fine tungsten wires or transparent conductive coatings provide rapid de-icing and de-misting across the entire glass surface. Anti-spall layers prevent flying glass fragments from injuring the driver. Available in flat and curved configurations with low-emissivity coatings and wiper-friendly surfaces, locomotive front windscreen glass delivers the visibility, safety, and durability that modern rail operations demand.

Cab And Passenger Windows

Cab and passenger windows are precision-engineered glazing systems for locomotives, multiple units, metros, and light rail vehicles. Cab windows must meet rigorous driver visibility, impact resistance, and anti-spall requirements under EN 15152, while passenger windows prioritize safety, thermal comfort, and acoustic insulation under ISO 22752. Both use laminated safety glass with PVB, SGP, or EVA interlayers to hold fragments in place after breakage, with chemically strengthened or thermally tempered glass for superior strength and optical clarity. Optional heated systems using tungsten wires or conductive coatings ensure rapid defogging and de-icing from −25°C to +50°C. Customizable in size, shape, tint, and coatings, these windows also support emergency escape functions, vandal resistance, and lightweight polycarbonate alternatives. Compliant with EN 15152, ISO 22752, GB 48005, and GMRT 2100, they deliver the durability and safety modern rail operations demand.

Technological and R&D Advantages

Mingdun Glass is one of the earliest high-tech enterprises in China to engage in the research and development and production of safety glass for rail transit.

Ordinary tempered glass (physically tempered), also known in the industry as safety glass, is the most widely used type of tempered glass today, offering fast processing and low cost. However, it has inherent defects such as spontaneous breakage, light refraction, and a low safety factor, affecting the user experience.

The industry generally considers the spontaneous breakage rate of physically tempered glass to be 0.3%. Even after homogenization furnace treatment, the spontaneous breakage rate can be reduced to 0.1%, but it cannot completely prevent the occurrence of spontaneous breakage. Spontaneous breakage of physically tempered glass is characterized by randomness, uncertainty, and suddenness.

Mingdun Company, adhering to the safety product concept of "impact resistance and penetration prevention," has addressed the shortcomings of ordinary tempered glass by employing ion replacement technology to produce ion-tempered glass (chemically tempered), which boasts higher safety performance and stronger impact resistance.

Mingdun Company has two ion tempering furnaces, which are independently designed and manufactured by Mingdun and have complete independent intellectual...
